Why did we choose 200mg of caffeine?

In the information about every one of our single origin coffee beans, we provide the volume of brewed coffee needed to consume in order to reach 200mg of caffeine. This is not prescriptive, rather should be referenced as a maximum daily level of consumption.

According to the FDA, healthy adults should generally avoid consuming more than 400mg of caffeine per day. As stated on FDA.gov:

For healthy adults, the FDA has cited 400 milligrams a day—that's about four or five cups of coffee—as an amount not generally associated with dangerous, negative effects.

Despite this phrasing from the FDA, it's worth noting that there is no official definition of a "cup" in the literature or even on any governmental websites. For more information on this, please refer to What exactly is a "cup" of coffee, anyway?

We chose the 200mg daily limit because it aligns with two highly caffeinated cups of coffee within the FDA's recommended guideline. Further, 200mg of caffeine is a relatively standardized measurement found in products that list caffeine content, such as energy drinks, caffeine pills, and pre-workout supplements. We strive to serve coffee enthusiasts with high performance needs, so we wanted to provide a natural, one-to-one alternative to these coffee substitutes.

Please adjust your caffeine intake based on your personal requirements. This is not a recommendation to meet, but rather a recommendation not to exceed.
